Founded by Jonathan Fraser Regnery in 2004, it grew out of a one man cabinet shop into full kitchens, interiors, backyards, and outdoor kitchens across the South Bay and greater Los Angeles.

Meet the founder
From a grandfather's workshop to whole homes.
Jonathan Fraser Regnery was raised in part on a farm in upstate New York, where he spent countless hours in his grandfather's workshop. Working with wood and building things by hand became second nature early.
After graduating from Indiana University with a degree in theater and telecommunications, he moved to Los Angeles and built a successful acting career spanning more than thirty years, appearing in film and television including Frasier, NCIS, Justified, and Swordfish under the name Jonathan Fraser.
Between acting jobs he found another creative outlet in construction. In the early 1990s he joined Marceil Design Construction as a lead carpenter, working on projects ranging from Greene and Greene inspired Craftsman homes to Richard Neutra modernist designs, custom cabinetry, Asian inspired decks and bamboo handrails, and highly specialized retail spaces. That experience shaped the attention to detail, craftsmanship, and problem solving that still define his work.
In 2004, with the endorsement of Marceil Design, Jonathan opened his own custom cabinet shop. What began as a one man operation designing, building, and installing custom kitchens, furniture, and cabinetry steadily evolved into a broader design and construction business.

Lead carpenter
Joined Marceil Design Construction, working on Craftsman homes, Neutra modernist designs, custom cabinetry, and specialized retail.
2004
Opened a custom cabinet shop with Marceil Design's endorsement. A one man operation building kitchens, furniture, and cabinetry.
2010
Earned the California C-6 Cabinet, Millwork and Finish Carpentry license, and later a General Contractor's license as the work grew outdoors.
2020
Co-founded Kingdom Outdoor Living, specializing in custom BBQ islands and complete outdoor living environments.
Today
After nearly six years running both companies, the next step was clear. Their experience and craftsmanship came together under J.F. Designs, covering custom residential and select commercial work across the South Bay and greater Los Angeles.

How long have you been building in Los Angeles?
Jonathan has more than thirty years in the trade, starting as a lead carpenter in the early 1990s. He opened his own shop in 2004, so J.F. Designs has been building here for over two decades.
Are you licensed and insured?
Do you really build in your own shop?
We do. Cabinets are milled and assembled, millwork is fabricated, and custom steel for BBQ islands and firepits is welded in our own local shop. That control over the craft is a big part of why the details come out right.

Do you handle design, or only construction?
Both, and that is the point. From your first inspiration photo to 3D renderings and final approved drawings, we design in house, then build what we drew. If you already have plans, we are glad to price and build those too.
